Black Hills – Sturgis

Heading to Milwaukee for Labor Day with a special stop at the Harley Davidson Museum (Mecca for the Harley culture).  Kelley will be flying to Milwaukee on Friday so need to make sure I am there to greet her flight and spend the weekend with her enjoying all Harley’s festivities.

It only made sense to start the journey to the HD Museum with a ride through the the Black Hills and a stop in Sturgis.  Besides;  usually the only scenery I have experienced going the most direct route through Nebraska is the bug splatter on the front of the bike or even worse on the forehead (must have been a reason the 1892 Nebraska football team was known as the “Bugeaters”)!

Fantastic ride today through the Black Hills with a ride down the Needles Highway and the routes to Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Wind Caves and other Black Hill’s treasures.

Needles Highway – GoPro batteries died or this would have been an action shot on the highway and through the tunnels (the action was there just no video).  🙂

Sturgis feels like a ghost town compared to my past 2 visits during Bike Week and seeing hundreds of bikes in all directions wherever you looked.  Last year’s 75th crowd estimated at over 1 million and it was crazy!

North Dakota is the last of the 50 states I have not visited and therefore the last on my ‘Bucket List’.    Believe I will keep heading North tomorrow.

Beer of the night was the Crow Peak Porter brewed in Spearfish, South Dakota. Nice finish for the day.
